Travel Tale 01
A note from my travel diary when I was on my way back from Bhutan in 2019.
“At breakfast this morning in a hotel in Kolkata, I saw a man being fed by this beautiful woman. They looked in their mid 30s. I couldn’t see his hands, as he sat there smiling, opening his mouth and taking bites lovingly, and I thought to myself, “Oh he is disabled! So nice of her to feed him!”
For the next few minutes, as I sat eating my Dosa, I thought about those countless partners and spouses who offer their lives to care for an invalid partner.
I got up to take a second helping and saw the guy reach out for a glass of juice.
So he did have hands.
And his better half (or lover or partner etc.) was feeding him. Like feeding a child.
Sigh.
The stupid things we do in public when we’re in love.”
